The Link to my Page..

A research proposal is a contract stating what you will do, how you will do it, and how you will interpret the results.(McGranaghan) If you are able to write a good, meaningful research proposal it will then later help the writer when they are ready to write their thesis statement.(McGranaghan) It was also stated in my link that a proposal can help decide how long your research paper will be, it stated to shoot for 5 well thought out pages that make it look like the writer has done their research and are able to explain what they need to say in 5 pages.(McGranaghan) Then when it comes to writing the paper the writer will have all the solid information he needs to prove his point and will be able to go off of all the research he has already gathered. This link also gave an outline of what a proposal may look like, starting with the introduction it has a topic area, a research question and significance to knowledge section.(McGranaghan) Then it goes on to the literature review which is pervious research and unanswered questions, after that it goes into the methodology which is the writers approach and the writers data needs, then you end with your expected results.(McGranaghan) I think this is a really great website to learn how to do a research proposal and hopefully it will be able to help me once I write mine.

A Research Outline:

A research Outline is a way of helping you organize your paper. It can help with the ordering of the writers  information, also helps keep track of all the information the writer wants to put into their paper.(Purdue) When making an outline it can really help show the relationships among all of the writers ideas, define boundaries in the writers groups, and present the writers material in a logical form.(Purdue) To create a research outline the writer has to first figure out the purpose for their paper, then figure out the audience or age group for their paper and lastly come up with a thesis statement.(Purdue) Once the writer has completed the last steps the writer then may start with their outline, meaning the writer gets to brainstorm tons of ideas. Once the writer is done brainstorming the writer will group all of their ideas into specific groups so that the same ideas are alike. Then the writer will order them in which way they want their paper to go from start to finish, while doing this the writer can label each topic with main and sub topic labels.(Purdue)

Proposal:

Question: How the media effects a female body image.

Being worshipped for beauty is more important than scholarship or being true to oneself (Gerber). Having the perfect body can be the number one priority to female college student. Even girls as young as five are starting to worry about their body image and going to extreme lengths like dieting or even vomiting to achieve what they feel is perfect (Gerber). Females are pressured into having the perfect body because of the media and how they believe a woman should look. Jennifer Love-Hewitt was photographed and humiliated in a bikini because she didn’t portray the perfect set of abs that celebrities are meant to have, but she still wore a size two waist (Gerber). In fact the average women in America is wearing a size 16 (Gerber). The way the media portrays the perfect body is destroying our college level females. Along with celebrities being harassed, models are being blamed for the wide spread of eating disorders and body dissatisfaction around the world. They are being blamed for eating disorders because the media insists on putting ultra skinny girls in magazines and calling them beautiful. When in reality it’s the media and government causing the wide spread of dissatisfaction, because of the wide spread of obesity in America the government has been putting more and more ads about weight loss in every teen magazine (Goodchild). By placing weight loss ideas and plans in magazines it shows women that they should and can lose weight, which is the start of achieving the perfect body image.

I’ve decided to choose this topic because I watch and listen to female students all over campus discussing their weight and ways they can lose a couple pounds to achieve the perfect body. With my research I want to be able to show female college students that the media may believe stick thin is beautiful, but the world is changing and stick thin maybe not be popular in a couple years. Starting with the change in models BMI’s in Britain they have now changed the guideline for models and they now have to have a healthy BMI, they are also tested for eating disorders (Radford). Yes, the world may never have an obese model advertising clothes but they will at least be at a healthy weight for their own bodies. I want to make it clear to students that they can feel comfortable in their own skin and still have a healthy life style. Another issue that has been rapidly growing is plastic surgery, if someone can’t lose the weight or have the perfect body part, than there is always the option of plastic surgery. Over the years plastic surgery has been used more and have been able to perfect its procedures but there are still always mishaps with everything. Heidi Montag is a perfect example with how plastic surgery affects females. Heidi Montag is an actress and wannabe Pop-star who believes plastic surgery is making her perfect. In an interview with Heidi Montag she discuss how she in entering a very competitive industry and needs to have the perfect body enable to compete with a pop-star like Brittany Spears (Garica). Heidi stated that she will keep getting plastic surgery as she grows older so she is able to portray the perfect body even after her body starts to age (Garica). Females can achieve the perfect body with time and a lot of money, but I want them to know the dangers of dieting and cutting open their bodies. I want to be able to explain that being perfect comes with a consequences, sometimes very large consequences.

For me to collect all this data that I will need to successfully write my research paper, I will be looking up other studies that have already been taken to show statistics of female adolescents and eating disorders, also statistics of plastic surgery and how both have grown over the years. I will do studies on female students around campus, I will ask them questions about their bodies and how they feel also what they would change and how they would do it. I will also use the internet to find websites that can express the effects that the media has on the teenage body, also how the lives of celebrities are affected. I will look at journals about modeling agencies and how they are changing because of the effects they’ve been having on their own bodies and how their bodies affect female adolescents.
