Book: Friday Night Lights
My idea was the tradition of football, and why it is taken so seriously in Texas.
Research Question: Why is Football considered a Tradition in Texas?
“The first I seen him carry that ball, he busted that line for eighty yards. Do you know how you feel see your son doin’ good, doin’ somethin’ special? It kind of put a lump in your throat. Man, that boy ran that ball that night!’ Stated Bobbie Miles Father, after watching his son carry on the tradition of football (Bissinger). In Texas boys are raised as football players. Starting in elementary school boys dream about becoming a high school football player, because in Texas they are considered celebrities (Texas). To other states football is just a sport but to Texas it is a family tradition carried down from father to son over generations, a boy could play for the same coach that their father played for 15 years earlier (Texas). Christian Ponder a player for Florida State mentioned in an interview that Football is a religion in Texas, football is all you do, you go year around playing 7 on 7 (Texas). Even when the boys aren’t playing football they are watching film, coaches teach them different coverages and how to make reads (Texas). Football isn’t just a sport in Texas, it’s a family tradition that becomes an obsession and a way of living.
